Data Concentrator

A data concentrator is a software and hardware solution that connects a number of data channels with one destination. It is commonly found that data concentrators interface with multiple intelligent devices (IEDs) such as electric protection relays, gas leakage systems, etc with different types of communication protocol and convert those into a single common protocol used by remote equipment systems such as DNP, Modbus, etc.

Commonly data concentrators support control centers protocols with conversion capabilities hence remote systems can communicate with IEDs even with proprietary protocol.
